Online Ticket Booking vs Fun with Mozilla Firefox

The fun of online ticket booking. No going to agents and listening to their non-sense, no asking questions, just sit in front of your dear computer fire the browser, select Destination, make payment using the Credit Card and lo and behold you have the tickets.

Well not that simple, specially when you are using a computer based on free software (free as in freedom). I use GNU/ Linux, Mozilla Firefox, I dont trust Windows for online transactions [*].

SpiceJet.com
My first experience with online booking of tickets for a domestic carier Spice Jet was kinda nice, except for the expected hickup with Firefox compatibility. The ticket were booked successfully but somehow the seat selection failed, that was later on done manually at the time of issue of boarding pass.

airindia.indiatimes.com
This site totaly sucks in firefox, I was not even able to go beyond the first page. :-(

TravelGuru.com
Nice site except for occasional problems with Firefox where you cant see what is behind their half visible advertisement banner on each and every page.

Hmmm.. some guess work required, to see what are they hiding. I tried reporting this problem to them and I got this.

Dear Sender,

Your mail to crm_feedback@travelguru.com was not delivered
as the destination mailbox is full.

You may try resending the message.

Netmagic Mail Administrator

Never mind, DO we know why the crm_feedback is full? Is it the account where all the customers complaints go. May be no one reads it!

Another possible bug (?) in their search function, when searching for flights for round trips, if the departure date is greater than return date, they will report this:

Due to heavy traffic on site, we are currently unable to display your search results.
Please try again after 15 minutes.

Very informative, keep trying.

india.makemytrip.com
MakeMyTrip, some of the sleekest advertisements, and nice site too. But why not compatible with my browser (firefox) :-(

When looking for flights, the "Select City/ Airport" link does not work, if somehow you guess the city names (actually copy past from TravelGuru.com) and click Get My Flight button, a blank page appears. Gwaa...

Maybe it is not my day, or maybe I am sleepy or maybe the dual boot with Windows XP option has finally infected my GNU/ Linux partition. Well whatever, untill the big co's learn not to turn away the customer.

What if the CO's use Windblows for processing my credit cards? What if my card company is using Windogs? OMG!

Hi Ajay,

I'd recommend you try Cleartrip.

I'm one of Cleartrip's founders and we love Firefox. Making the site compatible has been a priority for us from day one.

cheers
Hrush
